MEMBER ALERT: New Phone Impersonation
Please be aware of a recent fraud involving a phone spoofing scam targeting PSE Credit Union, Inc. members. Criminals are spoofing PSE Credit Union, Inc.’s phone number and are impersonating our staff and our departments. They are attempting to obtain sensitive information and gain access to members’ accounts. PSE Credit Union, Inc. will never call, text or email you to request your full debit card number, PIN, CVV or online banking or account credentials.
How the scam works:
The criminals are using spoofed phone numbers to make their call appear legitimate. They claim to be from PSE Credit Union, Inc. and may warn you of suspicious activity on your account or an urgent matter you need to respond to. Their goal is to scare you enough to convince you to share sensitive information, such as account numbers, card numbers, PINS, CVV codes or online banking/account credentials.
What is Spoofing?
a. A type of cyberattack where a criminal fakes their identity to appear as a trusted source, to steal information or money.
b. Spoofing can be done by altering caller ID to make the call look like it’s coming from a local number or from a specific person. Spoofing can also include creating fake emails or text messages.
Best Practice:
a. Hang up. Then dial PSE Credit Union, Inc.’s direct number at 440-843-8300 or stop into a Branch.
b. Report suspicious activity.
What to do if information was shared?
a. If you believe you’ve provided sensitive details to a scammer please call PSE Credit Union, Inc. immediately so we can secure your account.
b. Monitor your account and information and report any other suspicious activity.
